2004 – PBS Hosts “Spring Fling” Show

The Portland Bead Society holds its first “Spring Fling” show, soon to be renamed “Arts & Elegance”, at the Oregon Convention Center.

2000 – Oregon Glass Guild is Established

Bringing together several local glass organizations, the Oregon Glass Guild was established in 2000 with chapters in Portland, Eugene, and the Gorge.

1995 – Weavers’ Annual Show Moves to Convention Center

The Portland Weavers’ Guild’s annual spring show moves from the World Forestry Center to the Oregon Convention Center, running alongside the annual Ceramics’ Guild show. PWG also celebrates its 50th anniversary.

1990 – 1994 – Portland Society for Calligraphy at GotG

The Portland Society for Calligraphy participated in the 1990 Gathering of the Guilds show at the Multnomah Arts Center

1989 – CMAG Spring Show Begins

The Northwest Jewelry Design Show is born when the OPA invites the Creative Metal Arts Guild to join them at Montgomery Park, alongside the Weavers Guild’s “Handwoven Plus” show and OPA’s “Ceramic Showcase”.

1988 – First “Bead Bazaar” Held

The Portland Bead Society holds its first Bead Bazaar at a farm in Sherwood.

1988 – Portland Bead Society Established

The very first meeting of the PBS was held February 10, 1988 at John’s Landing, organized by Anita Hildner and Mary Maxwell. Dues were set at $10 per year, and by-laws were adopted in September, 1988. Early meetings featured local members who took turns talking about their areas of expertise.

1986 – Creative Metal Arts Guild Established

CMAG started out as the Jeweler’s Round Table, a casual group of Portland area jewelers who met to discuss topics of mutual interest. It was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1986 with the goals of exchanging ideas and technical information, discussing issues of interest, providing ways to help upgrade technical and creative skills, and finding additional ways to market the work of its members.

1983 – Oregon Potters Co-Op 1st Annual Spring Show

The Oregon Potters Association (then Co-Op) hosts the Oregon Potters Spring Show & Sale at the World Forestry Center, starting what would soon become the country’s largest all-ceramics craft show.

1980 – Oregon Potters Association Established

The Oregon Potters Association is founded and becomes a non-profit focusing on ceramics education, community, and support for its member artists.

1978 – Guild of Oregon Woodworkers Established

In 1978 a small group of professional woodworkers in the Portland, Oregon area began meeting in an effort to find a better way to market and sell their products. The Guild was formally born.

1974 – Weavers’ 20th Annual Show Held

The Portland Weavers’ Guild’s twentieth annual exhibit and sale is held at Contemporary Crafts Gallery.

1945 – Portland Handweavers Guild Established

 Established in 1945 with an initial group of 20 members, the Portland Handweavers Guild (PHG) has grown to almost 240 members as of 2024.
